Also check my video out. Not that good but not bad.

Sometimes cheap gear can work out better than you think when it comes to recording music. Other times, you can get a piece of equipment for cheap and it is cheap period. The cheap gear I’m referring to is the Art Vla Pro II. If you want a hardware compressor then avoid this gear with the quickness. Its not worth the metal its its encased in. For one, it swallows up the low and high frequencies of a signal. Every sound I run thru it sounds worst than the original. Art need their ass kick for this crappy chinese assembly line junk. Why should I complain? After all, I bought a cheap piece of equipment so why expect pro results. Look, anybody starting out at recording should avoid this thing with a passion. Don’t buy this reading reviews online because its misleading. Review after review praise the compressor as best bang for buck. What complete lies. I think either some of those reviews were written by Art or some lame that doesn’t know the difference from a flash light and a light bulb. Save up for a real compressor or stick with plugins if you have a daw.

Ok, now that I have ranted on how bad this compressor is, Art does make a great Preamp. Its called the Art MPA Gold. This preamp is the shit. I’ve bought cheap gear but this thing can hold its own against more expensive preamps. Art really out did themselves on this thing. Anybody on a budget should pick this up. Change out the tubes and you will be blown away with the difference in sound. Maybe one day I will buy a more expensive channel strip but since cats give away my music for free and clubs fronting on me to pay, this is what I’m stuck with. There are other ways to get paid in this industry and maybe I will start doing that but I love rocking shows and giving the masses that real shit so who knows.

The crew was called Dem Dare. A loose network of Graf artists, djs and dancers. They had a imagery and flavor unlike any crew

back then and now. The guy behind the imagery was RegNoc aka Reggieknow. See, back in the 90s the music scene in Chicago was small but it was building. The one thing that made Dem Dare attractive was their flyers for their classic hip hop parties. The flyers done by RegNoc had a hint of Japanese manga style flavor with cool hip characters that reflected Dem Dare’s vibe. Also, the crew had dope djs like Twilite Tone, Reno etc. To top it off, they had a crew of cats doing promo and repping the crew 24/7.

Platform8470.com, Belgium’s number 1 website for underground hiphop, reviews Beatmonstas’ “Bomb Til We Hit Em” album. The album yielded a rating of “Mighty Phat” which totals out to approximately 9 on a scale of 1 to 10. It’s always good to get some international love. Big Ups to Platform8470.com.

See the review below or head over to Platform8470.com and check it out.

Beatmonstas

The Chicago collective of Therapy, Noble Dru, Phashara, Sense and Rahfiki returns, after four years, with a sophomore album that clearly shows an evolution during the last few years.

The great choice of samples, the effective scratches, the nice guest features and the crew’s solid flowin, really appeal. Check out ‘Rippin To The Last Bar’ for example. The Tim Dog sample, greatly scratched unto the chorus, the crew’s flawless flows and the vivid Prince Po feature, make this song just one of the many highlights of the record.

Besides the cry for lower gas prices, less violence and more welfare (keep in mind this album was recorded during the Bush administration), the overall revolution theme of the album is interrupted by girl-friendly songs like ‘Unfair’ and ‘Sexy Mama’. The latter being a highlight of the soulful side of the album.

Not crossing boundaries, but simply good, honest hip-hop. Made with a traditional recipe that respects the art of boombap and adding a profound twist of soul, the Beatmonstas’ sophomore album keeps our conscience sharp and heals the soul. ~by: cpf | 02-18-2010 | rated: mighty phat
When I first got it, I thought it would be something similar to a Akai Mpc but instead, it was just a phrase sampler with 4 track recording. Roland at the the time was trying their first attempt at making a daw in a box but it was not quite there. I could have returned it but I said to hell with it and tried to make this box do wonders and It did. I studied the box in and out until I made something close to what I was looking for. It did that and more with its built in Virtual Analog synth. The synth was the best aspect to the machine but you could not control it with a keyboard. It had a built in step sequencer which was the only way to control it. The sounds were amazing. I still to this day can’t recreate those sounds on any synth I have now. I wish I kept it but I was fiending for the Akai MPC 2000xl. I also had a Yamaha Rm1x which was a great machine and it had a great sequencer but the internal sounds were garbage. I quickly sold that. After that, I stuck with the MPC 2000XL. Most of the music I released on Beatmonstas Ent was from this box. The MPC 2000XL is still the center piece to my studio. Next post I will talk about synths and software. PEACE..

I could start telling everybody to buy Beatmonstas which I will but do most of you know where Christmas comes from? Some may not know that Christmas is not about Jesus or even Santa Claus. Its a Roman pagan holiday celebrated some time around December 17th-25th in the Roman, pre-Christian era. The Roman authority would select a male or female to partake in brutal sex and food galore. Once the week is up that person will be sacrificed hoping their death will wipe away darkness and bring better harvest for the spring. Constantine created Christmas and made it a christian holiday getting the story of Jesus from African folklore and combining it with the Pagan festival.

I could go on but from that little info you can imagine how savage the true holiday is. Keep that in mind when you go to church praying to Jesus. Santa Claus story is just as wicked but I hope people reading this will do research to find out for themselves. Sorry to spoil your Holiday cheer but truth is better than fiction. Happy Holidays..

The twins from Gary Indiana have been rapping for a long time and putting it down for G.I. I met them back in the early 90s at Columbia College in downtown Chicago. We all shared the same appreciation for hip hop music and the culture in general. Back in those days we all use to hangout in the Hokin Annex rapping in ciphers and displaying our skills.

This is a pic from back in the day at Columbia with Allstar and a few cats I use to hang with. Peep the high top fades.

Daily Plannet dropped a full length lp in 2004 on All Natural’s label. I don’t know what they doing now but cats are super sleep on these dudes.

Okay.. Some of my readers are probably wondering why I’m talking about Corona Queens native Gab Gotcha. Well, back in the day my homies (Blah Zae Blah)had a record deal with Island Records in 1994. I happen to hitch a ride with them to New York to hang out with my crew. Anyway, I was hanging out at Island Records with nothing to do except smoked allot of trees I got from record execs and listening to demo tapes. While I was passing time, there were many well known cats coming thru the door like Q-tip (Tribe Called Quest), Frukwan (Grave Diggaz), PM Dawn etc. Me being a cat from Chicago, I was never exposed to the industry and how small of a world it is especially in New York City.

Later on I see like 20 kids come in the office. This is when I met Gab Gotcha, Creature and Buck. They were called The Triflicts. We hit it off. I was young and wanted to show my skills. I said, lets spit. They were down and as we were freestyling verses, I could see they were surprised I could spit especially being from Chicago. Gab in particular had a dope flow. We traded info and stayed up for awhile. Lost contact with Gab but stayed up with Creature.

Well, enough with the back story. This is why I wanted to talk about Gab Gotcha. He just ink a deal with Wu-tang Latino. This guy has worked with the best in the industry like the Beatnuts and too many to list. I wish Gab all the best with this venture. Check video with Gab Gotcha breaking it down..
